Young Leaders Visitors Program, Sweden

The Young Leaders Visitors Program (YLVP) is an intercultural leadership program that aims to lay a foundation for dialogue, mutual understanding and knowledge sharing among young leaders from the Middle East, North Africa and Sweden.



Objectives

The main aim of YLVP is to lay a foundation for dialogue, mutual understanding and knowledge sharing among young leaders from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza, Yemen and Sweden. YLVP strives to strengthen the participants in their aims to drive processes for social change in their respective contexts.

 

The YLVP 2012 will integrate the following areas:

  • Knowledge building: theoretical and practical perspectives on transparency, democracy and human rights, through lectures, seminars and workshops by prominent speakers and inspirers actively working on these subjects.
  • Study visits: tailor-made visits to relevant Swedish organizations, institutions and public agencies that work in the spheres of society, culture, and politics.
  • Individual project work: training in effective project management as a tool to drive development and change processes. An opportunity for the participants to try out knowledge and ideas gained throughout the program in practice.
  • Personal development: reflections and new insights on group dynamics and leadership from an intercultural perspective.

Cutting-edge social media solutions are used throughout the program, as tools for learning and for building networks that promote dialogue, knowledge-sharing and openness.


The program comprises of four weeks of intensive work divided into two modules:

 

Module 1: YLVP in Sweden (three weeks) September 9-28, 2012 

Intercultural leadership training with lectures, seminars and workshops providing the participants with new skills and perspectives in the fields of transparency, democracy and human rights.

Practical group assignments and individual project work run throughout the module in combination with tailor-made study visits to relevant Swedish authorities, organizations and institutions.

 

Module 2: YLVP in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region (one week) December 2-6, 2012

 

Offers an opportunity to maintain, build and expand your network. All participants, including those from Sweden, will regroup to discuss and evaluate their involvement in the program and report back on the development of the individual project works.

 

Workshops and seminars with experts from the region, including representatives from the YLVP alumni network, who are invited to share their expertise and practical experience from work in the field.

 

Accommodation, food and travel

 

All costs related to accommodation, food and transport during the YLVP are covered by the Swedish Institute. The Swedish Institute will also arrange and pay for your air travel to and from Sweden, but participants are themselves responsible for costs related to transport within their own countries.

 

Insurance

 

During the program in Sweden all participants will be insured against acute illness and accident through the Swedish State Group Insurance and personal insurance by The Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Service Agency (Kammarkollegiet).

 

Visa

 

Participants are responsible for obtaining their visas in good time before departure to Sweden and other relevant countries. A link to Swedish embassies and consulates can be found in the right-hand menu.
